Sid Richardson Scout Ranch

The Longhorn Council is build a 30 mile trail system at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch for mountain biking, hiking, and backpacking.  The trail will run mainly along the hillsides by the lake and will be completed in sections.  It will have over 30 miles length wehn completed.  Troops and Crews are invedt to volunteer with the trail construction.  A Trail Steward will teach trail building techniques, conservation, and erosion prevention, and provide tools and supervision. 

Troops and Crews that perform a full day of trail builder service on the mountain bike and hiking trail project may earn Philmont Points for a Philmont Council Contigent Trek or Climbing or Boating Certificates for use of camp equipment and boats.  Any help your unit can provide would be greatly appreciated!  Consider scheduling 1 weekend a year to help build the trail.

Trail Tools & Equipment:  Supllied by the camp and the Trail Steward.

Trail Building Techniques:  Taught by the Trail Steward or Ranger

Project Hours:  All day Saturday or partof Sunday.

What to Bring:  Work clothes, work gloves for all, meals for the weekend, snacks, lots of water(!), all your normal troop camping gear.

What You Get:  Boat and equipment certifcates, Philmont Council Contingent Points, trail building knowledge and experience, service hours for your Scouts, and a new trail system.
